Wonder of the Seas Steel Cutting to Delivery Mashup

From the first cut of steel to the moment Royal Caribbean took the keys, Wonder of the Seas took shape in a three-year span of design and construction ahead of joining the Oasis Class lineup of vacations renowned for their signature combination of experiences. There are adventures for all ages across thrills, entertainment, dining and nightlife in eight unique neighborhoods, including an interactive, open-air play area for kids – Wonder Playscape – The Mason Jar Southern Restaurant & Bar, the cantilevered Vue Bar, a trio of waterslides, an adults-only pool, and more. The next Perfect Day, located on Mexico’s popular Caribbean coast in Mahahual, Mexico, opens in 2027 as the latest in the vacation brand’s growing lineup of destination experiences, which includes the top-rated Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas that set the bar in 2019. Vacationers of all ages have in store a slice of paradise that combines Royal Caribbean’s adrenaline-pumping thrills and ways to chill with the vibrancy, culture and beauty of Mexico.

Royal Caribbean and Inter Miami Grant Wishes of Make-A-Wish Children B-roll

September 2024 – Together with Make-A-Wish, the global nonprofit that creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, Royal Caribbean and Inter Miami CF granted the wishes of 23 wish kids during a four-day experience between Saturday, Sept. 21 – Tuesday, Sept. 24, in South Florida. The highlights included a day on the record-breaking Icon of the Seas to plunge down six waterslides, watch a performance from the first theatrical rendition of “The Wizard of Oz” at sea, meet Chief Dog Officer Rover and more. Plus, they made an exclusive visit to Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium to meet the Inter Miami squad and their captain Lionel Messi, where they enjoyed behind-the-scenes access to watch the team train, their own field-level suite and more.

Behind the Scenes of Star of the Seas: Installing the AquaDome

September 2024 – Going behind the scenes of Royal Caribbean’s construction of the highly anticipated Star of the Seas, the installation of the AquaDome’s 367-ton (332 tonnes) dome is a sight – and feat – of iconic proportions. At the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, the largest glass and steel structure to ever be lifted onto a cruise ship is a days-long process that takes months of planning. The installation also marks the next phase of work, when it all starts to come to life with the buildout of the neighborhood’s restaurants, bars and the deck-defying entertainment venue, the signature AquaTheater. In August 2025, Star debuts as the next combination of every vacation in Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida.

June 2024 – Royal Caribbean’s new Utopia of the Seas, the ultimate short getaway, introduces the boldest Ultimate Abyss yet. A behind-the-scenes look at the installation of the longest dry slide at sea – now 43 feet longer at 259 feet – shows how the experts in Saint-Nazaire, France, lifted and assembled multiple pieces and new features like zoom booster rollers and transparent racing windows. The piece de resistance? The signature anglerfish and its 38 teeth. Thrill seekers can cheers to weekend energy – and adventure – any day of the week when Utopia debuts with 3-night weekend and 4-night weekday getaways from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, in July.

Utopia of the Seas Construction Update: Sailing for the First Time

May 2024 – Royal Caribbean International’s Utopia of the Seas is almost ready for its debut. The ultimate short getaway is back in Saint-Nazaire, France, after five days of testing and sailing the open ocean for the first time. The sea trial, one of the final construction milestones, saw more than 900 experts push the ship to its limits as it covered more than 1,700 miles and reached speeds of up to 25 knots. Everything was inspected, from the navigation and engines to the signature AquaTheater’s stage elements and resort-style pools – all less than 10 weekends ahead of the new vacation’s homecoming party at Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, in July.

May 2024 – After more than seven years of dreaming and the work of thousands around the world, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is a reality. The series finale of Making an Icon, "Preparing for an Iconic Debut,” looks back and goes behind the scenes of the final days and milestones leading up to the January 2024 debut of the first-of-its-kind combination of the best of every vacation. From the mic-drop moment Icon crossed under the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark to the installation of 33,550 real plants and the arrival of thousands of crew members in Spain, plus more finishing touches like stress testing, show rehearsals and crew training on the transatlantic, and then a historic arrival in Miami – this iconic adventure was one for the ages.
