BAHAMIAN CAPTAIN APPOINTED AS ROYAL BEACH CLUB HARBORMASTER

MIAMI, June 24, 2024 – Royal Caribbean International has appointed Grand Bahama master mariner Captain Cameron Gibson as harbormaster for the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, the cruise line’s 17-acre beach experience coming to The Bahamas in 2025. In the role, Gibson will oversee the management of harbor operations.

Gibson brings more than 20 years of experience to the team, including navigating some of the world’s largest and highest tonnage cargo and cruise ships through diverse regions and waters, from the South China Sea to West Africa and the Middle East. He earned a bachelor’s degree in maritime business and commerce from the State University of New York Maritime College in 2012 and has since gained extensive experience on ships around the world, where he has contributed to the development of marine monitoring processes and environmental management strategies. In 2018, Gibson returned to The Bahamas, obtained certifications in various specializations and chaired disaster preparedness and response committees. He also earned the prestigious International Master Unlimited License bestowed to him by the United Kingdom in 2021, the highest maritime qualification in the world.

Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, the first of the Royal Beach Club Collection, will take shape in the coming months ahead of its opening in 2025, and at the heart of the experience will be the island nation of The Bahamas. From the location – one of the island’s most idyllic beaches – to the Bahamian food, culture and staff, to a unique public-private partnership in which Bahamians will own up to 49% equity, the all-new beach club combines the beauty and spirit of The Bahamas with signature Royal Caribbean touches across the experience, service and design.
