Symphony of the Seas is Royal Caribbean International's 5th ship to be designed and built with a multi-stream exhaust gas cleaning system, or Advanced Emission Purification (AEP) system (known as scrubbers or exhaust gas cleaning systems). We believe using scrubbers is the most efficient way to have the broadest impact on reducing harmful emissions. The AEP (scrubber) system is designed to treat exhaust gases created by the ship’s generators, by injecting water into the exhaust stream and removing approximately 98% of sulfur dioxide emissions (Sox), 50 - 60% of particulate matter (PM), and, as a byproduct, some Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) (although it’s not designed to remove NOx).

Health and safety protocols, guest conduct rules, and regional travel restrictions vary by ship and destination, and are subject to change without notice.
